Pedacito de Cielo (Little Piece of Heaven), located in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia, was the first orphanage/daycare in all of Bolivia that has been specifically designed to serve the many needs of children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Our orphanage was opened to respond to the immediate needs facing children who have lost their parents due to AIDS, or are HIV+ and have been abandoned. Our daycare is open to provide care for children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and their families, by offering the parents a safe place to send their kids in the day and providing family counseling. Both the orphanage and daycare also act as models of integration for existing centers that currently either lack proper considerations in regards to hygiene and health care, or discriminate against these children due to their connection to HIV/AIDS.
Pedacito de Cielo is only the first step in how we plan on involving ourselves with the community of those affected by HIV here in Bolivia. In 2011, our girls’ home joined PDC in providing care to children with a range of special needs, including HIV. We are working in close collaboration with various civic groups, medical professionals, and government agencies, to ensure the best care possible for our children.
As this home is a life-long commitment to these children, we seek partnerships with individuals, small groups, churches and other organizations to meet the monthly needs of the home.
Starting in 2012, the Bolivian Children Foundation began to provide scholarships for the boys of PDC. These scholarships go towards covering the costs of each child’s living expenses. You can participate in our scholarship programs through one-time or regular giving, or by becoming a child sponsor.
If you would be interested in getting involved, either as a volunteer, by sending a team, or through financial gifts, please use the “get involved” link above to learn how, and be sure to indicate “PDC” with your correspondence.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
